Felix’s story

"Everybody brings something new to the table."

There are many ways to improve inclusiveness in the workplace. Educating employers about disability is really important and for disabled candidates to feel confident enough to talk about what adjustments they need.

I’ve also learned to highlight the positives that I can bring to the workplace so that potential employers don’t feel the need to question my abilities. Instead of just seeing autism as a negative, I’ve shown that there are many positives as well.

Being disabled doesn’t have to be a barrier to finding work.

There’s a long way to go to improve attitudes and awareness. Education is key. People need to be educated about different impairments and how they can make adaptations for each one. It’s not difficult to do. If the work environment isn’t supportive, things can go downhill quickly.

Being disabled doesn’t have to be a barrier to finding work. It will take the right support and you working to overcome the barriers that do exist to get what you want – just like any other goal in life.
